Welo Opal and White Topaz Earrings

15 x 15 mm hoop earrings crafted in rhodium-plated 925 sterling silver with a 7 x 5 mm oval-faceted Welo opal and 2 mm circular white topazes. The hoops are heart-shaped, with the topazes around the periphery and the opal at the center, the star of the piece. All stones are prong-set and secured with a post and wing nut.

Welo Opal:

The play of colors in opal is due to the refraction of light within the cristobalite microspheres. In Greek mythology, it was said to have originated from the tears of Zeus's good fortune after his victory over the Titans. In India, it is the goddess of the rainbow, solidified into stone when she fled from the troublesome gods.
