Lapis lazuli and moonstone earrings

The term lapis lazuli comes from the Latin word "lapis," meaning stone, and "lazuli," an Arabic word (allazjward) meaning paradise, sky, or simply blue. It was ground into powder to produce the intense blue color, and Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, and Fra Angelico all referred to it as blue gold, as it commanded a similar price.
