Buddha carving in Tiger's Eye

Hand-carved in Tiger's Eye in the shape of a Buddha. This piece weighs 12 grams and measures 32 mm x 20 mm x 16 mm.

Iron produces the golden-yellow color, and its characteristic striping is due to fibrous inclusions. The Romans used tiger's eye carved into their shields and breastplates as a protective symbol in battle. Before departing, they would give their wives a bowl of milk to drink in which they had previously placed a tiger's eye amulet. It was believed that if a woman was unfaithful during her husband's absence, she would be unable to conceive a child with her lover. In the Middle Ages, it was worn as an amulet against witchcraft, demons, and the evil eye.
