Malachite Ring

Size 18 ring made of 950 silver, featuring a 22 x 15 mm teardrop-cut malachite cabochon. The malachite is set in a silver bezel-style case and secured on both sides of the stone by the main band. This beautiful stone displays a characteristic banding of varying intensity in shades of green.

Malachite is a very rare basic copper carbonate, which originates from rainwater containing carbonic acid in the oxidation zone of copper mines.

Malachite's importance as a mineral stems from its high copper content. The name given to this mineral comes from the Greeks, who originally referred to the color of the rock itself, not the gemstone. In the Middle Ages, malachite was believed to relieve menstrual pain and facilitate childbirth, which is why it is now known as the midwife's stone.
