Opal and black spinel pendant with 45cm chain

A 28 x 6 mm pendant crafted in rhodium-plated 925 sterling silver, featuring four polished oval cabochon-cut Welo opals (4 x 3 mm), prong-set one below the other, and surrounded by faceted circular black spinels (1 mm in diameter). The pendant is completed with a 45 cm 925 sterling silver chain.

Black Spinel:

Spinel is a double oxide of aluminum and magnesium with a very complex structure. Spinel was not recognized as an independent mineral until 150 years ago; before then, it was classified as a ruby.
