Black opal and tourmaline ring

Ring No. 18 crafted in rhodium-plated 925 sterling silver with an Australian black opal in an oval cabochon shape measuring 9 x 7 mm, and faceted tourmalines in 6 x 3 mm and 1 mm. The design simulates a spider web, where the opal is located in the center, raised, and surrounded by small pink tourmalines, and towards the periphery, tourmalines of various colors in a navette cut.

Black Opal:

The play of colors in opal is due to the refraction of light within the cristobalite microspheres. In Greek mythology, it was said to have originated from the tears of Zeus's good fortune after his victory over the Titans. In India, it is the goddess of the rainbow, solidified into stone when she fled from the troublesome gods. Fire opal owes its color to its iron content; the range of colors extends from yellow to orange to brown and red.
