Blue Labradorite Brooch

Scarf brooch measuring 70 x 28 mm, crafted in 925 sterling silver and featuring a beautiful rectangular-cut blue Labradorite cabochon (15 x 12 mm) set in a closed box. The designer's creation highlights curves resembling a teardrop, drawing the eye to the stone.

It was first discovered in 1770 on the Labrador Peninsula, Canada. Ranging from translucent to opaque, it can occur in whitish, dark gray, or grayish-black colors with bright metallic reflections of blue or green. These reflections are due to an optical effect called labradorescence, which is produced by the diffraction of light as it strikes the lattice planes of the stone's structure: the albite and anorthite layers, the polysynthetic twinning, and the inclusions.
