Garnet

Garnet weighing 113 grams and measuring 45 x 40 x 35 mm, originating from Nono, Córdoba, Argentina. This incredible specimen has a large, flat face measuring 33 mm that emerges from the matrix, accompanied by multiple manifestations.

Garnets are a group of silicates that have been used since the Bronze Age as gemstones and abrasives. The chemistry of garnets is very complex. It is believed that there are intermediate chemical compositions between two extremes, which are considered to be the true species.

Garnets are frequently found crystallized as dodecahedrons, but they also occur as trapezohedrons (deltoidal icositetrahedrons). They crystallize in the cubic system, having three axes of equal length and perpendicular to each other. Garnets do not exhibit cleavage, so their fracture is always irregular.
