Quartz is a mineral composed of silica. Tibetan quartz crystals are transparent, slightly smoky, and doubly terminated with black carbon inclusions. The mines are not easily accessible by machinery, so most Tibetan quartz specimens are extracted by hand, sometimes by the monks who live there.
