This 42 x 17 mm pendant is crafted from 950 silver and features a large, faceted, circular Welo opal from Ethiopia, 13 mm in diameter, of unparalleled purity, transparency, and opalescence. The opal is set within a teardrop-shaped structure, prong-set at the center of the lower section, and separated from the chain loop by a circular silver detail.
The play of colors in opal is due to the refraction of light within the cristobalite microspheres. In Greek mythology, it was said to have originated from the tears of Zeus's good fortune after his victory over the Titans. In India, it is the goddess of the rainbow, solidified into stone when she fled from the troublesome gods.
