A 51 x 28 mm pendant crafted in 950 silver, featuring a large, polished, oval cabochon of incredibly beautiful Andean Mantle Obsidian, measuring 40 x 26 mm. In the light, it displays reddish-brown tones. The stone is set in a silver box with a bezel-style clasp.
Obsidian is not a mineral in the strict sense, but a glassy rock, very rich in silica, that originates from the rapid solidification of magma. Its characteristics and appearance, as well as its widespread distribution, have made it famous since antiquity and have led to its use in rituals and ornamentation. Obsidian, along with flint, is known as "the warrior's rocks." In certain Stone Age cultures and early civilizations, it was highly valued because it could be used to make very sharp blades. Mesoamerican cultures used obsidian to make tools, ornaments, and weapons. The Egyptians considered it a powerful talisman and made amulets from it, carved in the shape of scarabs (their sacred animal), which they placed in the tombs of the deceased to ease their passage to the afterlife.
Its reddish tones are due to the presence of hematite.
