Pink and green tourmaline hoops

49 x 10 mm hoop earrings crafted in 950 silver with two oval-cut, faceted tourmalines measuring 7 x 5 mm. The designer's creation highlights the two stones at the ends of a sinusoidal silver segment. The hoops fasten with a post and wing back, positioned in the center, with one stone below the ear and the other slightly above it.

Pink Tourmaline:

Also known as rubellite, pink tourmaline contains traces of manganese, which gives it its lovely pink hue. Tourmaline exhibits both pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties, meaning that opposite charges accumulate at both ends under pressure and when heated.

The elements that give tourmalines their green hue are vanadium, chromium, or iron. The greatest admirer of tourmalines was Empress Dowager Cixi, who ruled China from 1860 to 1908. The Empress used the stone in carvings, on watch chain clasps, and on the buttons of jackets worn by the Imperial Court.
