Lapis Lazuli Ring

Size 18 ring, crafted in high-purity 950 silver. This beautiful piece, entirely handmade, features an extraordinary oval-shaped lapis lazuli measuring 33 x 19 mm, with the intense blue color characteristic of this stone originating from Afghanistan. The stone is set in a bezel-set case, supported by a silver filigree band.

The term lapis lazuli comes from the Latin word "lapis," meaning stone, and "lazuli," an Arabic word (allazjward) meaning paradise, sky, or simply blue. In the Middle Ages, it was also used as a dye for ultramarine. It was ground into powder to produce the intense blue color, and Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, and Fra Angelico all referred to it as blue gold, as it commanded a similar price.
