Size 18 ring made of high-purity 950 silver, featuring a hand-faceted oval-shaped Prehnite measuring 19 x 14 mm. The stone is prong-set onto a wide silver band, followed by the main ring band, which is 5 mm wide, to give the piece more prominence.
It is named after its discoverer, the Dutch colonel H. Van Prehn, who first found it in 1774 at the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. This honor was bestowed upon him by the German scientist Abraham Gottlob Werner. Most gem-quality prehnite comes from Australia. It is a calcium aluminum aluminosilicate, although up to 7% of the aluminum may be replaced by iron.
