Larimar and cubic zirconia ring

Size 18 ring made of rhodium-plated 925 sterling silver with a polished 9 x 7 mm Larimar cabochon. The stone is prong-set and surrounded by cubic zirconia. The beautiful blue color characteristic of the stone contrasts with the sparkle of the cubic zirconia, creating a delicate and feminine piece.

It was discovered by a priest in Barahona, Dominican Republic, in 1916; however, its popularity didn't surge until 1974 when Miguel Méndez named it larimar, combining his daughter Larissa's name with the word "sea." This blue color, unlike that of other rocks, results from the substitution of cobalt for calcium.
