Lapis Lazuli Pendant

This 58 x 36 mm pendant is crafted from high-purity 950 silver and features a large, polished, oval-cut cabochon of lapis lazuli (30 x 20 mm) from Afghanistan. The lapis lazuli is distinguished by its intense blue color and pyrite inclusions, which give it a unique golden sheen. The design is further enhanced by silver trim and flowers.

The term lapis lazuli comes from the Latin word "lapis," meaning stone, and "lazuli," an Arabic word (allazjward) meaning paradise, sky, or simply blue. In the Middle Ages, it was also used as a dye for ultramarine. It was ground into powder to produce the intense blue color, and Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, and Fra Angelico all referred to it as blue gold, as it commanded a similar price.
