Apophyllite is a hydrated phyllosilicate of hydrothermal origin. Due to its high water content, it appears as cubic or pyramidal crystals; they can be transparent or opaque, ranging from small crystals to large clusters.
Its German name “Fischaugenstein” fish eye stone is due to the fact that its fracture surfaces have a pearly luster.
