Golden Labradorite Pendant

This 20mm pendant is crafted in rhodium-plated 925 sterling silver. The star of this elegant pendant is a golden labradorite. Viewed from the correct angle, its surface radiates metallic reflections. These reflections are due to an optical effect called labradorescence, which gives it a mysterious and captivating shimmer. The cabochon cut of the labradorite, flat on the underside and domed on the outside, helps to enhance the stone's colors and optical effects. It was first discovered in 1770 on the Labrador Peninsula, Canada. Ranging from translucent to opaque, it can appear in whitish, dark gray, or grayish-black colors with bright metallic reflections of blue or green. These reflections are due to an optical effect called labradorescence, which occurs when light diffracts as it strikes the lattice planes of the stone's structure: the albite and anorthite layers, the polysynthetic twinning, and the inclusions.
