This beautiful piece, entirely handmade, features an extraordinary rectangular polished cabochon of lapis lazuli measuring 21 x 15 mm, originating from Afghanistan. The ultramarine blue hue of the stone is perfectly complemented by the brilliant bezel setting and band designed specifically for this piece.

The term lapis lazuli comes from the Latin word "lapis," meaning stone, and "lazuli," an Arabic word (allazjward) meaning paradise, sky, or simply blue. In the Middle Ages, it was also used as a dye for ultramarine. It was ground into powder to produce the intense blue color, and Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, and Fra Angelico all referred to it as blue gold, as it commanded a similar price.
